Over 50 Years of Service

About Us

The most important goals at this time are:

  • Pursuit of timely studies and efforts to ensure the long range navigational capability and increased use of the waterway.
  • Ensuring adequate operational maintenance and dredging under the auspices of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
  • Pursuit of timely studies and efforts to ensure the long range navigational capability and increased use of the waterway.

The Warrior Tombigbee River System is a vital link in Alabama’s waterways as well as an important part of the nation’s river network.  Modernization was begun in the 1950’s and today it carries over 20 million tons annually.  It has been an important element of the economic growth and development for the area along the Waterway from Birmingham to Mobile and for the in-transit shipping to and from points throughout the south.  It is important and has grown with the completion of the Tennessee Tombigbee link because of the confluence of the two systems near Demopolis, Alabama.

The Warrior Tombigbee Waterway Association is a non-profit corporation formed in 1951 to represent those interested in navigation of the Warrior Tombigbee system.  It continues to work for the System’s further development and proper maintenance and has become the principal vehicle for those who wish to work together toward these ends.

All of these require frequent and intensive efforts to keep the Alabama Congressional delegation and important Congressional Committees informed and interested as well as close coordination and liaison with the State of Alabama, the Corps of Engineers and the Coast Guard.
